Why do we need portfolios?
The BELA legislation requires homeschoolers to have assessments done at the end of phase (grade 3 and 6). According to the government, the assessments can be based on a portfolio of evidence of learning. The evidence can be things like videos, written work, photos and tests.
Why use the Free Range Schooling Portfolios?
When you sign up for a Free Range Schooling Membership, you get access to your own online portfolio portal. You can upload any evidence of learning directly into the portfolio. When you have to get an assessment done, we make your portfolio accessible to one of our assessors, and they use what is in there to write an assessment for your child.
You have three options…
In-depth CAPS content aligned Portfolio – For those parents who feel they need guidance regarding what content needs to be done in CAPS and want to stick as closely to the meeting the CAPS content requirements as possible, but at the same time having the freedom to do the homeschooling they have always done, or would like to do.
CAPS content aligned Portfolio – This is CAPS aligned, but without the in-depth detail. This is for the more experienced homeschooler who still wants to cover the content that is in the CAPS curriculum for ease of mind when it comes to assessments, but still want to continue homeschooling the way they always have.
A journey of learning portfolio – A portfolio that can be adjusted and personalized according to your own family’s learning philosophy or style (e.g. eclectic, Charlotte Mason, unschooling etc.). It is designed to show progress of learning, which our assessors can use to write an assessment for your child.
